Missing the summer

Entry for the "Phobia" contest of

ANTHOPHOBIA: The fear of flowers.

Some time ago I had a psychology course at university that was about Pavlovian conditioning. We had to read a text that treated of an experiment which had the goal to condition young children to be frightful of flowers.
So they where put on an artificial, energized flower field so that every time when they touched one of the flowers they were given an electric shock. This procedure was repeated several times.
When the children were put on a natural flower field later, they were all so afraid of the flowers that they didn’t want to touch them and started crying.
I was so shocked when I read that text, I just couldn’t believe that people were really able to do such a thing to a little child. It was an extremely horrible imagination for me.
When I read the theme of the contest I directly remembered that text and the terrible experiment, that spoiled the childrens fun of enjoying the beauty of flowers so that I decided to choose Anthophobia.
